The history of hockey at Boys’ High begins in 1928 when there was a need for a “different” sport for the boys to play in winter. So, effectively hockey has been part of the Boys’ High landscape for 88 years!

Over the years, the highest accolade that has been given to the hockey was the selection of Elmar Liebenberg to the SA schools team as vice-captain in 1990 and captain in 1991 (in the era of grass hockey), and Reece Arendse to the SA Schools B side in 2015 (the era of astroturf).
With the move into the era of astroturf, hockey has become the fastest-growing school sport, and competition has become even tougher. Our Interschools’ wins of 2013 and 2015, as well as the win against Grey Bloemfontein in 2014 are some of the outstanding highlights of the journey that is hockey at Paarl Boys’ High.
