Style Event Community Project

Plankies is an informal settlement in Mbekweni, Paarl in the Western Cape. The community has come together behind a recycling swop-shop project which helps clean up litter in the area, while meeting local children’s needs.

A pro-active group of businesses in the greater Paarl area called ‘Valley of Abundance’ working with Mosaic, a community development non-profit organisation are leading the project.

How is the recycling collected?

The recyclables are collected by Cape Waste, a national recycling company, and taken to the depot in Paarl. After weighing and pricing, their value is transferred back to the organisations to help with running costs and buying items for swopping.

Paarl Boys’ High is proud to be a part of this project.

Headed by Mr Style, it is the duty of the Style Event finalists to undertake at least two collections for this project during the course of the year. Every finalist is assigned a few register classes, who will then contribute at different intervals.

  • Klere
  • Sanitêre ware, bv. tandepasta, tandeborsels, seep, onderarmsproei, ens.
  • Speelgoed (hoef nie nuut te wees nie)
  • Skryfbehoeftes, bv. potlode, penne, Pritt, notaboeke, liniale, ens.
