In 1900 the newly founded school committee decided that they would sell the old school building in Lawaaimaak Street to finance the erection of Boys' High's first hostel. This new hostel, Monte Bello, was completed in January 1901 for a total sum of R5 800. The building was taken into use in April 1901 and is still in use today.
The completion of the first hostel can be seen as a turning point in the direction Paarl Boys' High would take in future. Our hostels are still the seat where the character of the school is determined.
Monte Bello celebrated its centenary year in the Boishaai Club House at Brug Street. Old Monties are welcome to come pay us a visit and sign their names on our commemorative board.
